Text Bridge Classic Windows 3.1xTutorial

The steps in this tutorial will teach you to use TextBridge Classicwith the Windows 3.1x Write program. The steps to use it with other wordprocessing applications are similar. The TextBridge Application Server programmust be started for this tutorial to work. If the TextBridge ApplicationServer is in your Startup program group, it will automatically load duringbootup. You can drag the Application server from the TextBridge Classicprogram group and drop it in the Startup group. Otherwise, just doubleclick on the Application Server to load it into memory. Hold down the CTRLand ESC keys at the same time to bring up the Task List and verify thatthe Application Server is running.

1. Start the Windows 3.1x Write program. It is in the Accessories programgroup.

2. In Write, open the file menu and click the TextBridge OCR commandnear the bottom.

3. When Textbridge comes up, make sure Image From Scanner is checkedand click the OKo button which will bring up the F/B Scanner dialogbox (Twain driver).

4. Set the Scan Mode to Lineart, the Resolution to 300 dpi and clickPrescan.

5. When the Preview comes up, set the Crop Frame so it surrounds allof the text you wish to recognize (Don’t crop too close).

6. Click the Scan button. After the page is scanned, the F/B Scannerdialog box will close automatically and return to TextBridge Classic.

7. TextBridge Classic will ask if you want to scan another page. Ifthere are more pages, click continue, otherwise click End.

8. After you click End, TextBridge will perform the OCR process on yourdocument and return the text to Write. It is now a standard word processorfile that can be saved as usual.

The above steps are virtually the same ones used to recognize text withany word processor. If the TextBridge Application Server is running, youshould see a TextBridge OCR command on the file menu of your word processor.If the command does not appear on the file menu, your application probablyhas not been registered with the Application Server.

RegisteringYour Word Processing Application With The Application Server

1. Double click the TextBridge Application Server to load it into memory(It runs minimized so you will not get an open program window). Press theCTRL and ESC keys at the same time to bring up the Task List. Double clickthe Application Server on the Task List to switch to it.

2. Look at the list of Registered Applications to see if your programis listed. If it is not there, choose your program from the list of AvailableApplications and click the Add button.

3. If your program is not in the list of Available Applications, makesure your program is running in the background before you start the Applicationserver. If you Rrestart The Application Server while your program is runningin the background and it should be added to the Available Applicationslist. If it does not get added to the list, it will not work with TextBridgeClassic.
