1. How do I receive a TV signal with my PL 8A90T and can I hook it up to cable and satellite?  top

Only the PL8A90T has a built-in analogue TV tuner; the PL8A90 does not support television.

First, ensure that the antenna supplied is connected and if possible, stretched out so as to receive a better signal. Once this is done, power on the PL 8A90T and press the ‘MODE’ button on the unit (‘TV Source’ on remote) a couple of times until you get to TV mode. You may only see ‘snow’ (broken picture with white and black) at first. The PL 8A90T can receive air signals (regular TV) or be connected to cable with the supplied adapter. Pressing the ‘MENU’ buttons switches between air and cable signals.

To program your PL 8A90T’s TV lineup, press the ‘SETUP’ button on the unit (‘Auto Search’ on remote) and let the player pick up all available signals. Once done, you may press the Previous and Next buttons (|<< or >>|) to cycle through signals picked up or Back and Forward (<< or >>) to cycle through all channels, regardless of signal strength.

CABLE AND SATELLITE

This unit can be connected to cable or satellite with the included adapter. If connecting the PL 8A90T to cable without using a decoder box, make sure you change from AIR to CABLE mode. However, keep in mind that if using a cable or a satellite decoder box, you will only get 1 channel. You will not be able to change channels with the PL control remote because you must change the channel on the box. This is not a limitation of the PL but a standard operating restriction of having to use a cable or satellite decoder box.

2. What kind of memory card does the PL 8A90/T use?  top

The PL 8A90/T can use either an MMC (Multi Media Card) or SD (Secure Digital). The largest size card you can use for SD is 512MB and MMC is 1G. You can purchase memory cards directly from Mustek at:

Additionally, you can find MMC and SD cards at any local computer, camera or electronics store.

3. How do I use a memory card with the PL 8A90/T?  top

First, make sure that the memory card is inserted correctly. Please check by referring to the icon on the memory card slot on the side of the PL 8A90/T.

Insert the card and then press the ‘MODE’ button until you see the ‘MMC/SD’ option. If you have a card with MP3 and JPEG picture files, the MP3 files will be prioritized and begin playing.

4. What kind of files can I play using the memory card slot feature?  top

The PL 8A90/T can play MP3 and JPEG picture files. On cards with MP3 files, the MP3s will begin to play upon recognition. Press the Previous and Next buttons (|<< or >>|) to skip to the other files. On cards with JPEG pictures, a slide show will commence upon file recognition. Press the Previous and Next buttons (|<< or >>|) to skip to the other files. Pressing the Right or Left buttons (<< or >>) will rotate the picture being viewed. Note: JPEG files over 3MB in size will cause the player to operate slowly as it reads the file. Additionally, not all JPEG files will be displayed by the PL 8A90/T as not all compression methods may be readable by the unit.

5. My remote control does not work. What can I do?  top

Please ensure that the plastic protection sheet is removed from the battery slot. If this does not work, please ensure that the batteries work. Replacement 3V batteries can be purchased at most electronic stores.

6. How long should the battery be charged the first time?  top

The battery should be charged for 3 – 4 hours after discharge.

7. When I try to play a movie, the message Wrong Disk is the only thing that appears on the screen. What can I do?  top

First, ensure that the unit has sufficient power. A weak battery may not provide enough power to the read laser and cause such problems. Additionally, please make sure that both the laser head and the disc being played are clean. Please do not touch the laser head as this may leave prints and cause distorted playback. Only use devices designed to clean laser heads on this unit. A CD or DVD can be cleaned with a damp cloth, always wiping from the center of the disc out. If you are still getting read problems, please follow these instructions:


1. Make sure the DVD player is powered off and the DVD tray is empty.
2. Locate the “DVD sensor” inside of the DVD tray. It is the rectangle shaped black piece of plastic with the laser lens.
3. If the sensor is close to the center of the circular tray, move it about an inch toward the outer edge of the circle. If the sensor is closer to the outer edge of the circle, try moving it closer to the center. Again, please ensure that you do not touch the lens.
4. Once you have moved the sensor, try playing a DVD.

8. The LCD on my PL8A90/T will not display anything at all. What could be the problem?  top

Please make sure the switch on the side of the DVD player is set to AV OUT. The PL can receive signals from devices with AV out ports, such as Mustek DV Camcorders, wireless video camera or other playback devices. Additionally, ensure that there is sufficient charge in a battery to support the high drain of the large TFT LCD screen.

9. What does the P-SCAN option mean?  top

P-SCAN stands for Progressive Scan. The PL 8A90/T’s progressive scan feature outputs a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional interlaced picture, thereby creating a picture that is sharper with less noise. Some of the advantages of progressive scan are sharper images, flickering and noise are reduced and as a result, eye fatigue is minimized thereby allowing you to view your DVDs more comfortably. Mustek’s line of DVD players and recorders handle both progressive and conventional interlaced video.

However, please keep in mind that your television must support this feature in order to work! If your equipment does not support progressive scan, only gray and washed out images will appear on your TV. Progressive scan is only an output function on the PL 8A90/T players.
