  1. What kind of memory card does my Mustek Gsmart S40 camera use?

    2. The Gsmart S40 can support both SD/MMC memory cards.
    Please note: There are a few brands of SD memory cards that we recommend you stay away from. They have been known to not work properly with this camera. The brands include Scandisk, Sandisk, Lexar, and Panasonic. There may be other brands that do not work well. However, these 4 are the only ones we know of currently. Also, some SD memory cards, including the 4 brands previously mentioned, will appear to work with the camera, but when you connect the camera to your computer, you will not be able to transfer any pictures



    You should be able to find SD memory cards at any local computer stores or any stores that sell digital cameras. You can also purchase memory cards directly from Mustek at: www.MustekDirect.com


  2. My camera did not come with a memory card. Can I still use my camera to take pictures?  top

    3. Your Mustek camera has a 16MB of built-in or ‘internal’ memory. You can use the camera normally even though it says ‘no card’ on the LCD display. You can insert a SD/MMC memory card to the memory card slot to increase the amount of memory you have, which will allow you to take more pictures. To use the camera, you DO NOT NEED a memory card.

    1. Turn on your camera and connect the camera to a computer using the USB cable provided.
    2. For Windows ME/2000/XP users, your PC will detect the camera after the connection.
      For Windows 98SE users, please install the installation CD.
    3. Double-click “My Computer” on the Desktop.
    4. Double-click on “Removable Disk”
    5. Double-click on the DCIM folder.
    6. Drag and drop files to your PC.

    Now your pictures have been successfully downloaded from your camera to a folder.


  4. How do I transfer pictures/videos from my camera to a computer using PhotoImpression 4.0?  top

    1. Install the installation CD included in the package.
    2. Double-click the “PhotoImpression 4.0” icon on the desktop
    3. PhotoImpression 4.0 introduction screen will appear
    4. Click “From Folder” button
    5. Click “Browse”.
    6. Click “Removable Disk DCIM” and OK.
    7. Use edit tools available on-screen to modify images.


  5. My camera will not turn on. Is there anything that I can do?  top

    6. If your camera will not turn on, please ensure that you have inserted two 1.5V AAA Alkaline batteries correctly. Additionally, make sure that you use new or fully charged batteries.

  6. My Mustek Gsmart S40 is not being detected by my computer OR I cannot transfer pictures from my camera to my computer OR I do not see the REMOVEABLE DISK drive in My Computer. What can I do?  top

    7. IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 98 OR ME:

    1. Make sure the camera is NOT connected to your computer.
    2. Right-click the MY COMPUTER icon.
    3. Left-click PROPERTIES.
    4. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
    5. Turn the camera on and connect it to an available USB port (DO NOT connect the camera through a USB HUB).
    6. In the DEVICE MANAGER, look for any devices that appear after you connect the camera. The device will have a yellow exclamation point or yellow question mark next to it. If you do not see any such devices, press the MODE button on the camera. Pressing this button will toggle the camera between Mass Storage and PC Camera modes.
    7. If the device is called “USB device” or “Unknown device”, double-click it.
    8. Click on REINSTALL DRIVER.
    9. Click NEXT or OK or FINISH until the drivers are updated successfully.

    IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 2000 OR XP:

    1. Make sure the camera is NOT connected to your computer.
    2. Right-click the MY COMPUTER icon.
    3. Left-click PROPERTIES.
    4. Click on the HARDWARE tab.
    5. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER button.
    6. Turn the camera on and connect it to an available USB port (DO NOT connect the camera through a USB HUB).
    7. In the DEVICE MANAGER, look for any devices that appear after you connect the camera. The device will have a yellow exclamation point or yellow question mark next to it. If you do not see any such devices, press the MODE button on the camera. Pressing this button will toggle the camera between Mass Storage and PC Camera modes.
    8. If the device is called “USB device” or “Unknown device”, double-click it.
    9. Click on REINSTALL DRIVER.
    10. Click NEXT or OK or FINISH until the drivers are updated successfully.

    NOTE: During this process, the CONSOLE may open up automatically saying the camera is not connected, simply close the CONSOLE. After closing the CONSOLE, a “Found New Hardware” window may appear, simply click NEXT or OK or FINISH until the drivers are installed. Once the drivers are installed, close out of all windows/programs and restart your computer with the camera turned on and connected to the computer. When the computer is all the way up, you should be able to access the pictures in the CONSOLE.

  7. How do I delete pictures from my camera?  top

    1. Switch to Playback mode
    2. Press Menu button
    3. Use the selection button to choose from the following options:


      • Delete one: delete the currently selected picture.
      • Delete all: delete all pictures being selected.
      • Format: Delete all files in the internal memory/memory card.
