Scan Dialog Box/Direct Scan Tutorial Part 1: When to Use the Scan Dialog box Part 2: Accessing the Scan Dialog box Part 3: Components of the Scan Dialog box Part 4: Using the Scan Dialog box Part 1: When to Use the Scan Dialog box The Scan Dialog box was designed as an easy method to do a majority of common scanning tasks such as making copies, sending faxes and scanning pictures. The Scan Dialog box is used in conjunction with a feature called the Cover Sensor, which activates the Scan Dialog box whenever the scanner lid is opened. The Scan Dialog box is best suited to doing quick tasks where specialized settings are not required. For complete control over a scan, including setting exact resolutions, it is recommended to use the image editing programs such as iPhoto Plus 4 and Picture Publisher, or to use TextBridge Classic for OCR. Part 2: Accessing the Scan Dialog box There are two ways to open the Scan Dialog box: using the Cover Sensor or by clicking on the Direct Scan icon in the system tray. The Cover Sensor senses whenever the lid of the scanner is opened and then displays the following message:
Clicking on Continue activates the Scan Dialog box. The checkbox with the message "Do not show this screen on startup" will disable the cover sensor screen if checked. If the Cover Sensor startup screen is disabled, opening the lid of the scanner will directly activate the Scan Dialog box program without pausing. The Scan Dialog box can also be accessed by double-clicking on the Direct Scan icon, which is located on the Windows Taskbar in the system tray where the time resides. If the green scanner Direct Scan icon is not in the Taskbar system tray next to the time, it can be replaced by clicking on Start and Programs and then choosing the program group that corresponds to the name of the scanner being used, i.e. Mustek 1200 III SP. Under the program group will be an icon called Direct Scan. Part 3: Components of the Scan Dialog box The Scan Dialog box is divided into three sections.
The left-hand side contains the various function icons, the center has selectable options for each of these functions and the right-hand side has the command icons.
Using each of the functions and the options screens will be covered in detail in the next section.

Right clicking on this icon brings up a menu where the Cover Sensor feature and Cover Sensor startup screen can be turned on or off. The entire Scan Dialog box feature can also be exited from this menu.
Clicking on this icon will return the green Direct Scan icon to the system tray.
